I feel an ever so slight need to explain myself with this one. Awhile back I stumbled upon a great music video on YouTube that was of Veronica and Michael. And when I went to search for that music video yesterday I couldn't find it. I've googled and everything. So in the end, I couldn't get this idea out of my head.

Note: While it is not ever required that you host the image on your own server (or really somewhere free like Photobuck or ImageShack) I am going to start requesting that you do.

There are three images within the code: under "body," "#sidebar," and "#header." All you need to do to host these somewhere else is (for example with ImageShack) under upload click "URL" then paste any of the urls from the code (from http://... to .jpg) and click upload, a new url will be given to you (make sure to take the last one it says "direct link to image") then copy and paste that url where the old one use to be in the code. And there you have it, your own hosted image for the layout.

Now the reason I'm asking this is because, while ImageShack (and Photobucked) do offer quite a bit of hosting time and bandwidth use for image you have on there, I've had problems with some layouts in the past having headers or backgrounds disappear. I'm just trying to make it so this will hopefully no longer happen. Thanks!

Made With S2 and Flexible Squares Layout

UPDATE: USING NEW CUSTOMIZE SYSTEM

1. Click "Customize"
2. In the cute little search thing type "flexible squares"
3. Click the "Apply Theme" button for any theme (I'm clicking "Black, White, and Red All Over," but honestly I don't believe it matters which theme you pick so long as it's a flexible squares one)
4. Click "Customize" Under the theme
5. Click the last link in this new section "Custom CSS"
6. Make sure all dropdown boxes say "NO"
7. Copy and paste the override code into the box provided
8. Click "Save Changes" and there you have it!

My very first tutorial!!!! So here's the thing, I don't really ever save my .psd files for icons.... so when yourstar202 requested a tutorial for this icon I honestly didn't know if I would be able to recreate it. Now this isn't exactly how I made it before, that I know... but I think I came pretty close. Hope someone finds this helpful!

Made with Photoshop CS3 - Involves Selective Coloring

1. Crop your image - however you see fit

2. Sharpen your image once and smooth skin with blur tool. Personally, I have my brush set at 18% (I try to avoid eyes, lips, and hair), you may also want to run the sharpen brush over the eyes, lips and hair to enhance them even more (again, i usually have the brush opacity set to 18%, at that level I feel I have the best control over the outcome)

3. Duplicate layer (Ctrl+J)

a.) Image/Adjustments/variations (you can use color balance, selective coloring, or curves to achieve this effect as well... take your pick)
b.) Click Green x1, Cyan x2, Blue x1 (then click OK) - This is the coloring I was hoping to get, a more blue/cyan colored eye, but you can also use the technique to change the eye color... make them an evil red? Or natural brown? Be creative, experiment... you might be surprised what you'll create)

c.) Erase everything but the color part of here eyes
d.) Set to Screen @ 70% Opacity (again, this depends on taste... I would personally change this setting around after you are totally done with the tutorial to see what best settings you would like)

4. Selective Color - While it may look like this doesn't do much it really seems to effect the overall look in the end. The shadows of the face are more defined when I have this selective coloring layer.

a.) Set to Soft Light

a.) Desaturate (Shift+Ctrl+U)
b.) Set to Soft Light - Personally I LOVE high contrast and the ghostly white skin... If that's not your thing, try not desaturating the image or change the saturation even? Who knows what you may come up with.

7. New Layer (Shift+Ctrl+N)

a.) Select a hard edged brush (size 3)
b.) Select color #860f09 (Deep Red)
c.) Paint over Lips
d.) Set to Overlay @40% Opacity - I just like that the lips are more defined this way. Adds a bit more dimension to the icon for me.

8. Selective Color - This last piece just give it that blueish tone that I happen to find pretty.

So I know most of you who have friended my journal have done so because you enjoy the graphics that I make. I just would really like to take the time to say THANK YOU!!!! Note: While it is not ever required that you host the image on your own server (or really somewhere free like Photobuck or ImageShack) I am going to start requesting that you do.

There are three images within the code: under "body," "#sidebar," and "#header." All you need to do to host these somewhere else is (for example with ImageShack) under upload click "URL" then paste any of the urls from the code (from http://... to .jpg) and click upload, a new url will be given to you (make sure to take the last one it says "direct link to image") then copy and paste that url where the old one use to be in the code. And there you have it, your own hosted image for the layout.

Now the reason I'm asking this is because, while ImageShack (and Photobucked) do offer quite a bit of hosting time and bandwith use for image you have on there, I've had problems with some layouts in the past having headers or backgrounds disappear. I'm just trying to make it so this will hopefully no longer happen. Thanks!

Firefly (Serenity) – This is two part, first is when River is first revealed in the box, then when she scares the shit out of the crew when she comes out of it. The second part would be Simon explaining how smart River is to the crew, it just portrays in that small scene exactly how Simon feels about her.

The Outer Limits (Abduction) – All the narration for this episode. The opening was “When a heart has been turned cold by anger and grief, can patterns of destructive behavior be averted or are they predestined?”

The closing was “In an ever more complex and dangerous world, vigilance and guidance is needed for those most vulnerable to its cruelties... our children.”

Note: While it is not ever required that you host the image on your own server (or really somewhere free like Photobuck or ImageShack) I am going to start requesting that you do.

There are two images within the code: under ".pageheaderblock" and ".bodyheaderblock" All you need to do to host these somewhere else is (for example with ImageShack) under upload click "URL" then paste any of the urls from the code (from http://... to .jpg) and click upload, a new url will be given to you (make sure to take the last one it says "direct link to image") then copy and paste that url where the old one use to be in the code. And there you have it, your own hosted image for the layout.

Now the reason I'm asking this is because, while ImageShack (and Photobucked) do offer quite a bit of hosting time and bandwidth use for image you have on there, I've had problems with some layouts in the past having headers or backgrounds disappear. I'm just trying to make it so this will hopefully no longer happen. Thanks!</b>

Instructions: Please note these are a bit different than usual.
1. Click "Customize"
2. In the cute little search thing type "smooth sailing"
3. Click the "Apply Theme" button for any theme
4. Under "Choose a Page Setup" select "2 Column (sidebar on right)"
5. Click "Customize Selected Theme"
6. Under "Display" scroll down to "Userinfo Position in Entries" and select "right side" from the dropdown menu

Under "Page" the "Show Memories link on Menubar" I have selected "no" (the default is yes)
Under "Navigation" I have a couple changes (If your menu navigation is too long it will go over Summer Glau's face, to make sure this doesn't happen I have all links and such with short names)
"Text used to link to the 'Recent Entries' view" - I have "Most Recent" (Recent would work as well)
"Text used to link to the 'User Information' view " - I have "Profile"
"Text used to link to the 'Friends' view" - I have "Friends"
For the last four sections of this page "Text used to link to the Previous Recent/Friends page" until "Text used to link to the Next Entry page" I have taken away the word Entry or Entries (seems redundant to me and with it the links list was too long in the header)

Only other thing I want to make sure to say is that if you are posting a table (like an icon table) please make sure it's smaller than 550px wide (that's the width of the entries section). If you post anything wider than that a small scrollbar will appear for that entry (so it doesn't mess up the alignment with the whole layout)

So the reason I'm asking this is that I would like to know what browsers I should test my LJ Layouts in. I make them in Mozilla Firefox and normally test in at least IE. Well the real reason behind this is that I HATE IE at the moment, stupid Fixed Position code! Grrr... Anywho, if you have a sec, please let me know. Thanks guys!
